This month we talked to three individuals who have been “Living the Life” as part of the Air Force Civilian Service. They are just three of the more than 170,000 Civilian employees of the U.S. Air Force.
- Zerique Montgomery is a Contract Specialist at Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX.
- Ken Oliver is Chief of Civilian Staffing Operations at Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX.
- Rodney Rodgers is Chief of Human Resources Management at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, OK.
They talked about remote work—when it is and isn’t possible—and social media as part of the job search process. They also shared about developmental positions within the Air Force that allow you to come in with minimal experience in a specific career field, start a formal training program, and advance quickly through annual promotions. (37:57)
You won’t find a program like it in the private sector because the Air Force believes in taking the time to develop quality professionals. It’s not about rushing to make a profit; it’s about a commitment to integrity, service, and excellence—a commitment to the mission.
The panelists also shared what they like most about their jobs, including the camaraderie and the team, the professional support and training, the flexible and balanced work schedules, and the job stability. (46:34)
Listen to some of their memorable moments on the job, and you’ll understand that there’s something special about working as a Civilian in the Air Force. (47:36)
